  • Eiffage’s' ultra- high performance fibred concrete BSI® : 20 years of innovation

    Since its invention in the mid-1990s, BSI® has constantly redefined the meaning of cutting-edge and performance. The many customized new build and upgrading projects that we have carried through successfully are testimonies to the impetus for change represented by this new building material.

    As part of our continuous BSI® innovation process, Eiffage is involved in the formulation of the following standards:

    • Materials ((NF P 18-470)
    • Design (NF P 18-710)
    • Construction of structures with ultra- high performance fibred concrete (NF P 18-451)

     The Group is also committed to research: the Orthodalle, Badifops, and R6Pont processes were developed with the National Research Agency.

  • Using BSI® ultra-high performance fibred concrete : reliability and service

    With BSI®, Eiffage's experience and know-how in the field of ultra- high performance fibred concrete allow you to safely choose leading-edge solutions for your innovative projects. The concrete is deployed to ensure optimum mechanical and physical performance. Its outstanding properties make it a technical and visual alternative to stone, steel, aluminium, cast-iron and resin.

  • BSI®'s technical properties

    • Ductile: high capacity for plastic deformation before rupture. 30 % minimum of supplementary effort is taken up by the fibres
    • Section reductions: BSI®'s mechanical characteristics enable the use of 3 to 5 times less material 
    • Impact resistant:  (BSI®: 55 cm³ - granite: less than 100 cm³ - C35/45: between 250 and 400 cm³) and abrasion resistant (CNR index BSI®: 0.80 - glass: 1 - C35/45: 4) thanks to a compact fibre-reinforced matrix and carefully-selected aggregates
    • Waterproof (closed-pore skin):  3% porosity and 70 times less capillary absorption than a C35/45 concrete. Unlike ordinary concretes which swell, BSI® "closes up" in water
    • Non-slip: SRT dry = 90 / SRT wet = 48 (wet asphalt > 50) by endorsement according to the XP P 05-010 – 011 standards.
    • Temperature resistant: excellent stability in freeze/thaw conditions and in very low temperatures.
    • Fire resistant with treatment suited to its composition: there is no deformation in ISO 934 fire and Modified Hydrocarbon Fire (HCM) conditions
    • Resistant to chemical agents: stable in pH3 acid solutions
    • Corrosion resistant due to the lack of conventional passive reinforcement, and the compact closed-pore matrix.  
    • Can be coloured
    • Extra-thin for dressing and facing (includes a high percentage of fines)
