Lyon-Turin railway line: 2nd gripper tunnel boring machine delivered
The ELYOT consortium, for which we are responsible, has just taken delivery of its second and last gripper tunnel boring machine at the Herrenknecht AG plant in Schwanau, Germany. The machine will be used to build lot CO5 of the new Lyon-Turin railway line !
With its type, diameter of 10.43 m and length of 334 m, this machine is a first in France!
This choice of gripper tunnel boring machine is explained by the geology likely to be encountered: relatively compact, homogeneous and stable; it is also motivated by the great depth of the work to be carried out (2,200 m of cover) and the associated geotechnical phenomena.
Under 2,200 m of cover, the two hard rock tunnel boring machines will excavate 2x18 km of the base tunnel's two tubes. From the foot of the Villarodin-Bourget/Modane downhill tunnel, they will cross the Italian border!
Owner: TELT Lyon Turin
ELYOT Group: Eiffage Génie Civil, Spie batignolles, GHELLA COGEIS S.P.A.
